Chapter Six
Dinner with Santa Claus
Everyone gasped then chimed together. "Wow a movie theater."
Uncle Jack grinned. "There are forty-two seats in here, and I took the liberty of choosing a movie for this evening," he said than began to laugh. Abby, Linda, Andy, Froggy and Mr. Douglas looked at him as if he had horns growing out of his head.
"What's so funny?" Andy asked.
"Well, you arenât going to believe this. But the movie I chose is the Walt Disney Movie, That Darn Cat. It's about a cat that leads a young girl to bank robbers and the cat's name is D.C. Only his initials stand for Darn Cat!"
Everyone laughed as they took a seat in the comfortable chairs. Uncle Jack walked to the front of the theater and started the movie. The lights dimmed and in a matter of minutes, Abby could hear her father snoring loudly.
Abby giggled when the young girl threw the cat on the bad guy, and the fan blew all the stolen money around the room. Then they all laughed when the girl's boyfriend got caught in the garage door.
As the lights came back on Froggy remarked. "That was a cool movie."
Mr. Douglas was still sound asleep as everyone stood up and stretched. Abby shook her father's shoulder. "Movies over dad, time to go," she said.
Mr. Douglas stood up and stretched his arms over his head. "Those chairs are comfy, best nap I've had in a long time." Abby knew her dad must be tired. He worked in a factory, and worked in the evenings and slept during the daytime.
The decorators were cleaning up for the evening and getting ready to go to the Dining Room for the Volunteer dinner. The President and First Lady met Abby and the group as they walked out of the theater. "Would you like to join us at our table?" the President asked.
Abby felt as if it was all a dream. "Linda, pinch me. I can't believe I'm going to have dinner with the president and the First Lady," the young sleuth said.
Linda pinched Abby's arm and Abby let out a loud yelp. "Ouch! That hurt." she cried. Then her face blushed as everyone stopped and looked at her. "Sorry, I was just checking to see if I was awake or not," she apologized.
Linda whispered in her ear. "You said to pinch you."
"Yeah, but not that hard. Now I'm going to have a black and blue mark on my arm."
The group entered the dining room. Most of the volunteers were already seated at the smaller round tables. The President led Abby and the group to a long table in the front of the room. The table draped with a white linen tablecloth. The cat floral replica of D.C. took center stage and miniature Candy Cane floral arrangements were displayed on all the tables.
As the group took their place at the table an elderly woman with curly red hair and mischievous eyes walked over to the table carrying a tray of appetizers.
